A Boring 2014

{Yawn}

It's hard to stay awake in this buildup to National Signing Day 2014.

The problem is that Hugh Freeze is getting too good at this recruiting thing. He gets a third of the class on campus in January and has had most of it committed since last summer. Where's the drama in that?

There are only a few spots to fill.

And there's no "World's No. 1 Recruit" like Robert Nkemdiche looming out there to keep our anticipation up. I need some recruiting anxiety. Right now, I have none.

Even Ole Miss Spirit recruiting scoop artist extraordinaire Yancy Porter is bored!
And what's the deal with being 14th?!? That's the ranking of Ole Miss' current class according to at least one recruiting service. A year after landing in the Top 5, 14th feels like a trip to the Independence Bowl, when you're glad to be in a bowl game and all, but in no hurry to actually get to Shreveport.

Hugh Freeze set the bar extraordinarily high for himself last year. Not just with that Top 5 recruiting class, but also with the 8-5 finish in just his 2nd season at the helm. Even after the loss to Mississipppi State the expectations are still through the roof for 2014. ESPN's SEC Blog mentioned that an 8-win season could be viewed as a disappointment for Ole Miss next season.

Wow.

Expecting more than 8 wins at Ole Miss? These are rare occasions for Rebels and most of them didn't end well. I may prepare myself for a 7-win season just so I can be surprised by 8. Last I checked Ole Miss will still be playing in the SEC West next fall.

But back to recruiting. I'm glad it's a little boring. When having the 14th ranked class in the nation committed to Ole Miss is boring it means some really good things have been happening.

Boredom is good. One day I hope to be bored by Sugar Bowls like Alabama fans.

Until then, time for a nap.
