As I wrote a couple days ago, it's way too early to panic in basketball, which was the general feeling permeating from fans and message boards following the loss to Indiana State in Hawaii. Panic probably isn't the word I should use to describe Ole Miss fans right now. I don't think Rebel fans are panicking as much as they're just waiting for a reason to jump off Andy Kennedy's ship following six years of good non-conference play followed by average SEC showings and missing the NCAA Tournament. It's not panic as much as it is cynicism. Some might describe it as self preservation. Whether fair or unfair Kennedy still has to prove he can win the big games when it matters. The Rebels haven't done it under Kennedy in six years and as a result of that one loss to what turns out to be a pretty good Indiana State team fans are ready to jump even though this ship still stands a good chance of sailing all the way to the NCAA Tournament. The Clarion Ledger's Hugh Kellenberger did a good job of laying it all out yesterday on his Ole Miss blog. He even made a prediction you might like, though you may not believe it. Here's the link.
