Rebs Drop Series to Auburn

Just when we think Ole Miss is getting ready to turn a corner, like some us (including me) may have thought after the Rebels took 2 out of 3 from then No. 1 Vanderbilt two weekends ago, the Rebels go and lose a series to one of the lesser conference opponents on their schedule. See Tennessee, Arkansas and now Auburn.

At 20-20 (8-10 SEC) it is getting difficult to maintain optimism for a team that can't seem to take advantage of opportunities. Auburn (25-16, 7-11 SEC) was an opportunity blown as Ole Miss got on the bus three hours too early Saturday, allowing the Tigers a 14-0 win to give up the series in the 2nd game of Saturday's doubleheader.

The only series wins Ole Miss has this season are against No. 1 teams Florida and Vanderbilt, which sounds nice, but the body of work in series losses to Arkansas, Tennessee and Auburn takes the gloss almost all the way off those wins.

This may not be the year for Ole Miss. The season's not over, but there's a lot of work to do.
