For all the talk of "Good Bo vs. Bad Bo" and the questions as to his capabilities and the intense scrutiny Bo Wallace faced this week after throwing 3 interceptions in the first half of the season opener against Boise State, he made one heck of a response in Saturday's 41-3 beat-down of Vanderbilt.
In fact, Wallace did exactly what he said he would when he faced reporters last Monday - he took what the Vanderbilt defense gave him, checked down to his receivers and in so doing completed 23 of 30 passes for 320 yards and a touchdown (with NO interceptions). Wallace was so sharp and his passes so precise that Vanderbilt couldn't do anything to stop Wallace from carving his way down the field. The Rebels converted nearly all of their 3rd own conversions with Wallace was in the game, and if Hugh Freeze hadn't pulled the senior quarterback with 10:00 to go in the 3rd quarter Wallace would have easily thrown for more than 500 yards and no telling how many scores. He was that unstoppable.
If Wallace plays like this every Saturday, Ole Miss has a chance to go very, very far, thanks especially to a very stingy Rebel defense.
Wallace is my easy pick for Offensive Player of the Game.
The Defensive Player of the Game goes to senior defensive back Cliff Coleman. His pick six at the beginning of the 3rd quarter stretched the Ole Miss lead to 27-0 and essentially put the game away for the Rebels, even though there was an entire half to play. It was obvious by that point that Vanderbilt would not be scoring on the Ole Miss defense.
