I'm headed to watch former Ole Miss great Deuce McAllister get inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame tonight. Deuce was a freshman my senior year, when I was lucky enough to be the Ole Miss beat writer for the Daily Mississippian. I still remember being amazed by the ferocious, fearless way McAllister ran between the tackles. The freshman hit the line of scrimmage with no apparent regard for either his well-being or that of the linebacker trying to tackle him, and it seemed Deuce was good for four yards or more by virtue of his superiority in the initial collision alone. I knew then Deuce would be great, and he definitely was.
McAllister finished his Ole Miss career with records in carries (616), yards (3,060), rushing touchdowns (36), points (246) and 100-yard games (13). He was also named All-SEC twice.
I can't wait to watch him be honored for his great college and NFL career.
