The Commitment

After a loss to Mississippi State you don't just throw your hands up and walk away. You double down. That's what it felt like I was doing when I bought this new sweatshirt over the weekend - renewing my commitment. This sweatshirt shall henceforth be known as "The Commitment Sweatshirt," or "Old Blue" for short. Santa delivered it to the front door yesterday, and I'm seriously contemplating wearing it to work despite the fact that the temperatures are supposed to climb as high as 75 degrees this afternoon. The women in my office keep it cold any way, so I could wear a sweatshirt in July and be comfortable. I guess that settles it. I'm wearing Old Blue.

I'm just bummed I can't wear the hat yet. Maybe in the car...

POWE BACK WITH CHIEFS: I was happy to see that Jerrell Powe, cut by the Chiefs in the preseason, made it back onto the team yesterday. Powe will re-join fellow Rebels Dexter McCluster and Kendrick Lewis on the Chiefs roster. While a free agent, Powe trained with former Chiefs defensive line coach Anthony Pleasant and focused on cutting weight and improving his technique.  Numerous other teams showed great interest, but the Chiefs won out.  Powe also changed representation while a free agent moving from Hattiesburg, Mississippi's Bus Cook to Peter Schaeffer of Denver, Colorado.  Schaeffer has represented such greats as Barry Sanders and Mike Anderson.

Powe said, "I'm excited to stay a Chief.  Coach Reid and Alex [Smith] have done an amazing job this year, and I can't wait to get out there and push for the playoffs.  I'm in the best shape of my life, so the timing couldn't be better."
WALLACE MISSES CONERLY TROPHY: Mississippi State's Gabe Jackson became the 1st offensive lineman to ever win the Conerly Trophy, an annual award given to Mississippi's top college football player. Jackson beat out reigning Conerly Trophy winner Bo Wallace, which wasn't a surprise given the Egg Bowl outcome. The more interesting thing about the evening was the length Hugh Freeze went to to make sure he expressed his appreciation of his quarterback. There were some questions about that in the day after the Egg Bowl...questions that were quickly quelled by a statement from Freeze saying he and Wallace were on the same page. Freeze continued last night:
No argument here.

RECRUITING: While Freeze was in Jackson he paid a visit to Brandon High School.
