Ole Miss Morning News

Where will Ole Miss fans be cheering?
by Jake Adams

The main thing on everybody's mind this weekend is bowl destinations. Should you make your hotel reservation in Birmingham or Nashville?

1. Sports Illustrated's Stewart Mandel projects Ole Miss will play in the Compass Bowl against Bowling Green. I think he's right, though I completely disagree with his projection of Vanderbilt to the Music City Bowl and State to the Gator. I think he has those two reversed. I can't believe Vanderbilt would want to stay home for its bowl game and the Commodores are more worthy than State of the higher bowl slot. As I've said all week, I think the 6-6 record will keep the Rebels in the Compass Bowl, despite the head-to-head advantage over State (8-4). Like many of you, I still hope Ole Miss can work its way into the Nashville game, but in the end I think the Bulldogs' better record will win out. We should know tonight or early tomorrow.

2. Ole Miss hosts Rutgers at 1 p.m. Even though it's early in the season it's an important game for NCAA Tournament purposes.

3. There's all kinds of recruiting going on this weekend. I wonder what Tasmanian Denzel has planned for Laquon Treadwell today?
