Ole Miss 11, Mississippi State 1

It's hard to determine what's more exciting:
1. Scott Weathersby pitching 7 shutout innings as a starter;
2. Ole Miss getting 11 runs on 15 hits; or
3. Beating the pulp out of Mississippi State.

Fortunately, it's not a choice any of us have to make! We can just enjoy a very solid victory over Mississippi State and the pleasure of dropping John Cohen's Bulldogs to 23-22.

Ole Miss improved to 24-22 and created the tiniest bit of breathing room as it tries to finish the season above .500 and strives for an NCAA Regional berth, which is still attainable if the Rebels can finish strong.

The offensive explosion of late is encouraging. The young guys aren't young anymore and confidence seems to be growing throughout the lineup. The key is finding consistency on Sundays. Is Weathersby the answer? It sure seems like he should be.

"The reason Scott was out there tonight, he's so good out of the pen, but we needed a win," noted head coach Mike Bianco. "We know for all of our fans, this was a huge game for us. We realize this is a rivalry (game), but if you look at where we are on the year, we need a `W' and Scott delivered tonight."

Ole Miss plays at Missouri this weekend.
