Ole Miss split is doubleheader with the William & Mary Tribe on Saturday to claim a 2-1 series win. After losing the first game 8-1, Colby Bortles brought on the first beer shower of the season as part of a 16-2 romp.
Sophomore right-hander Brady Bramlett (1-0) picked up the win in Game 2 for the Rebels. Bramlett worked a career-long 6.0 innings, giving up two runs on four hits with no walks and eight strikeouts, one shy of tying another career high.
Errol Robinson went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI.
Sam Smith was chased early in Game 1, giving up four runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout in 3.0 innings of work.
Ole Miss is 2-1 on the season and hosts Arkansas State on Tuesday (4 p.m.)
It's difficult to make judgments about a baseball team based on one non-conference series, but it was good to see the bats come alive in that third game, and Bramlett's performance was a welcome sight.
As for Smith, he seems like the kind of pitcher who is going to have a bad game every now and again, but he is a battle-hardened senior and he will bounce back.
