The Legacy of Doctor Bo

With SEC West and Playoff hopes dashed, Ole Miss is playing for pride and a warm-weather bowl when it takes on Mississippi State in this weekend's Egg Bowl. But something much greater than that may be on the line for senior quarterback Bo Wallace. For Wallace, this game will likely decide how he will be remembered by Ole Miss fans for years to come. Fair or not, the legacy of Bo Wallace will be decided by a single game.

As a 3-year starting quarterback with a winning record at a school that hasn't had many 3-year starting quarterbacks with winning records, deciding Wallace's legacy by a single game probably isn't fair - it really isn't - but it's the truth.

If Ole Miss wins this weekend Wallace will be remembered as one of the best quarterbacks to wear the Red & Blue. He'll have three bowl games, the Ole Miss record books and two Egg Bowl wins to back it up. He'll be remembered as a winner.

If the Rebels lose...the bowl games and the records will be considered anomolies to two Egg Bowl losses, bad decisions, turnovers, and epic November collapses. He'll be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

It shouldn't come down to this. Wallace has beaten every SEC West team in his three years. He resurrected the program from the grave, set records and won bowl game MVP trophies. It really shouldn't come down to this one game.

But it does.

How will Bo Wallace be remembered? We find out Saturday.
