A Great Season Comes to a Close

An Ole Miss season that will long be remembered came to a close Saturday as Virginia moved past the Rebels 4-1, advancing to a Championship round date with Vanderbilt.

The Rebels were welcomed back to Oxford on Sunday as heroes, as well they should have been.
In reaching the final four of the College World Series this Ole Miss team went further than any major men's sport team in my lifetime. This was a talented, tough team that didn't know the meaning of the word quit. It was a special that accomplished some incredible things.

I listed their accomplishments on Twitter Saturday and you retweeted it a record number of times, which tells me you, too, appreciated this team.

You can also add 48 wins to that list, which ties the school record.

It was an amazing season. The Rebels had it all - great pitching, prolific hitting, power, speed, and defense. Ole Miss was a complete baseball team and a complete joy to watch.

And though it's sad to see the season come to an end, I'm extremely pleased with the way it went. I'm also excited about the direction of the program. Mike Bianco will lose some great players to the pros this year, but after watching freshmen like J.B. Woodman, Errol Robinson, Colby Bortles and Wyatt Short play I know that the future is bright.

There's a lot to be proud of at Ole Miss, but baseball is the absolute tops right now.

Well done, Coach Bianco.
