When running back Jeff Scott exited the BBVA Compass Bowl Saturday with a pulled hamstring freshmen Jaylen Walton and I'Tavius Mathers went front and center, and boy did they take advantage. Walton had already had a big day returning kickoffs, including a 49-yarder that set up a 2nd quarter touchdown drive, but after Scott left the game Walton picked up 58 yards on 10 carries. Mathers wasn't to be outdone. The two time Tennessee Player of the Year rushed for 96 yards on just six carries, exploding for a 62 yard touchdown that sealed Pitt's fate. A highlight of the Mathers run can be seen in the video below. They're just freshmen!
The Rebels will be loaded at running back next season.
