It's amazing what two years of terrible football will do for the perspective of a fan base. If one didn't know any better, after looking at the swarms of red and blue clad Rebel fans in Birmingham they might think something much, much bigger than the BBVA Compass Bowl between two 6-6 teams was about to take place. And maybe something bigger is about to take place. That's what this excitement that permeates the air in Birmingham is really all about, isn't it? This isn't just about the Compass Bowl. Ole Miss fans have the real sense that their team is going places. The Compass Bowl isn't the end. It's the beginning. A launch point. Thanks to Hugh Freeze Ole Miss fans think this ship is headed up. Way up. And they want to be there to see it lift off. And they're grateful. They're excited. They're supportive. Most of all, they just want to enjoy one last weekend hoorah before the eight month hibernation of the sport we hold so dear. And here they are. Ready.
