Ole Miss Morning Delivery: Laquon Treadwell Day

"Way to recruit, Coach!"
by Jake Adams

There's an unexpected thin layer of snow on the ground outside my house this morning. In a few minutes my children will wake up and be thrilled out of their minds when I tell them there's no school today. They'll squeal and laugh and run outside in their pajamas if I let them. It's the same level of giddy many Ole Miss fans will feel if Laquon Treadwell, the nation's No. 1 high school receiver, announces his commitment to the Rebels at 5 p.m.

Hugh Freeze has been on a recruiting tear since taking over as head coach 13 months ago. He instantly set his sights on the nation's best players and offered pretty much all of them. Some people snickered, but one 7-6 season later they're not laughing anymore. With just a few weeks to go until National Signing Day the Rebels are still in on a number of five-star athletes, and those who are in the business say it's entirely possible Ole Miss could end up with a Top 10 class when it's all over, maybe even a Top 5.

In order for that to happen Ole Miss needs Robert Nkemdiche, Tony Conner and Laquon Treadwell to sign. If that core group signs there are a few others who may decide to join them including Carl Lawson, Laremy Tunsil, Elijah Daniel, Montravius Adams - all five stars. There is at least the potential for an eye-popping recruiting class that could establish Ole Miss on the national scene for years to come. Can the Rebels really land all of those players? Probably not all of them, but the commitment of a player like Treadwell today would surely help their chances.

Tonight we'll learn just how possible the above scenario is. Treadwell is choosing between Ole Miss, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. OSU and Ole Miss closed hard, and Treadwell has been careful to leave his options open on Twitter as of late. It's entirely possible he could end up in Stillwater. However, if Treadwell does announce for Ole Miss look for the momentum of the 2013 signing class to grow even stronger over these next two weeks. Treadwell's commitment would make a BIG splash, and it could lead to a TSUNami (stolen, but it was too good not to use. Credit Red Cup?).
