Hugh Freeze is fast becoming a recruiting phenom. |
ESPNU announced today that Ole Miss is one of only 13 schools where the flagship college sports network will have a reporter embedded on National Signing Day (Feb. 6). According to an ESPN release Allison Williams will be reporting live all day from the meeting room of the Ole Miss coaches, providing coach interviews and up-to-the-minute updates on the 2013 signing class as the letters of intent roll through the fax machine.
It's another testament to the power and reach of Hugh Freeze's recruiting abilities and the shocking class he has accumulated in his first full year of recruiting. Freeze has created so much noise on the recruiting scene that at least one expert says Ole Miss is the recruiting story of the year. Having a chance at Robert Nkemdiche, the nation's top recruit, probably didn't hurt, but Nkemdiche wouldn't be the only star in this class.
Even without Nkemdiche the current class of Ole Miss commitments already ranks No. 10 on the Rivals board and is expected to go higher if the Rebels are able to get Nkemdiche and Tony Conner. Other top-flight recruits are also still possible, meaning the class could potentially end up near the Top 5.
The news that ESPN will be embedded at Ole Miss on National Signing Day couldn't come at a better time. There will be more stars in Oxford tomorrow night than ever before, and not the twinkling ones or the Hollywood ones either. Constellations of four and five star high school athletes will roam Ole Miss' beautiful campus all weekend and now in addition to hearing that they'll be a part of the "something special" that Freeze is building they can also know that their commitment to Ole Miss will be on televised on ESPNU. For a kid who has dreamed his whole life of signing a letter of intent with a major college football program that is a really, really big deal.
Speaking of big deals, that's exactly what Ole Miss is fast becoming thanks to one Hugh Freeze.
