The shots will fall eventually. |
Ole Miss lost to Middle Tennessee State 65-62 on Saturday, and it was reminiscent of any one of the six previous years under coach Andy Kennedy when the Rebels go undefeated against inferior competition and then fall apart against a serious opponent. Against MTSU the Rebels didn't shoot the ball well and lost it in the clutch on an offensive breakdown. Soon thereafter the moans throughout the Ole Miss fan base of "NIT" were audible.
As fans we tend to over-react. Admit it. When Ole Miss loses for the next 24 hours the season is over. When the Rebels win the only thing standing between them and a BCS Championship, College World Series or a Final Four is just a few more.
On this Monday morning it's time to take those fingers off the red button.
There's a whole lot of basketball left to play. Marshall Henderson isn't dialed in right now, but he didn't forget how to shoot. Eventually Jarvis Summers will find that groove he had in the last five games of last season. Murphy Holloway and Reginald Buckner could still take Ole Miss a long way.
The fact is against MTSU the Rebels shot horribly and couldn't hold on to the basketball and still only lost to what very well could be an NCAA Tournament team on their home floor by 3 points.
Ole Miss will get better.
I still believe this could be a special season.
