Either it was slim pickings for defensive backs in college football this year or the voters didn't watch the Egg Bowl or both, but somehow Mississippi State's Johnthan Banks won the Thorpe Award Thursday night at the ESPN College Football Awards. The award is given to the nation's top defensive back. Just a two weeks ago, the nation's No. 1 defensive back had no answer for Ole Miss receiver Donte Moncrief, who had a career night with 173 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Maybe there should be an award for doing that against the Thorpe Award winner.
