New Look and Some Ole Miss News

Bo Wallace won the Conerly Trophy
by Jake Adams

Hello and welcome to the newly redesigned OMRebelNation.com! I'm excited about the new look. Much like Bo Wallace's haircut, it's cleaner, simpler and everybody is going to be talking about it. Okay, maybe not so much on that last part, but I do hope you enjoy the new minimal look. I think it fits my personality and it'll help me do what I like to do best - get straight to writing about Ole Miss sports.

Enough about the new look. On to today's news:

1. Robert Nkemdiche, the nation's top recruit and the younger brother Denzel Nkemdiche, told the AJC recruiting blog, that people can think what they want as to whether he's a lock for Ole Miss, but "you never know," to which I agree wholeheartedly. Only on signing day should anyone feel confident about the destination of top-flight recruits. That said, it's hard to believe Denzel would yank people's chain. If he thinks his little brother is going to commit to Ole Miss, as he told reporters Saturday night, then I've got to think there's a great chance of it happening. Only time will tell. LINK.

2. This Sports Illustrated blogger asks with all that's going on in college sports, why is the SEC worried about an on-field celebration in Oxford? Good question. The policy really is put in place as a safety issue. People do get hurt in such on-field rushes after games. That said, the SEC gave Ole Miss a fairly gentle slap. Five thousand dollars isn't so much as a nickel in proportion to the SEC television contract, and Ole Miss fans have been waiting for something like that to celebrate for a good long time.

3. Ole Miss defensive line coach Chris Kiffin is hot on the trail of a 4-star Illinois defensive lineman named Josh Augusta (6' 5", 295 pounds). LINK.

4. Bo Wallace won the Conerly Trophy! An honor much deserved considering his 2,843 yards passing and 27 touchdowns. Wallace is definitely worthy of being called Mississippi's most outstanding college football player for 2012.

5. While some, such as ESPN's Brad Edwards, believe the Music City Bowl may take a 6-6 Ole Miss over 8-4 Mississippi State because the Bulldogs played in Nashville last year and because of the head-to-head results from the Egg Bowl, al.com's Mike Herndon still has the Rebels pegged for the Compass Bowl. While there's certainly hope for the Music City Bowl, I agree with Herndon that Birmingham is more likely. LINK.
